It’s All About Timing: Getting the Most Out of Your AM and PM Skincare

It’s time to step up your skincare to the next level. Whether you’re a no-frills, cleanser-and-moisturizer type or a devotee of nine-step skincare rituals, we think that we can safely assume that your morning and nighttime routines are in place. While we always recommend customizing your routine to your skin type and lifestyle (and can help you come up with one that works using all-natural products), we want you to get the most out of what you use to treat your skin.

With that in mind, the Green City team wants to share our tips on the best times to use some of our go-to skincare ingredients. Whether you use certain ingredients in the morning or evening can make a significant difference in how they affect your skin. Refer to this guide to accelerate the radiance-boosting, glow-revealing effects of your skincare routine.

AM:  Prevent and Protect

The most frequently touted morning skincare advice that we know of is the insistence on applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 every day before you leave the house. At Green City, we are strong proponents of this advice, as well. However, morning skincare goes further than just sun protection.

Your AM routine should be focused on a well-rounded protection strategy against not just UV rays but other harsh environmental factors. A serum containing antioxidants will neutralize the effects of airborne nanoparticles, which can carry quinones, a compound that ages the skin. Antioxidants, as well as vitamin C and E, will also target free radicals. By prepping your skin with protective ingredients, you’ll be ready to face the elements without fear.

The morning is also an ideal time to use anti-inflammatory ingredients to prevent flare-ups of sensitivity. Hyaluronic acid, chamomile, and aloe all work to keep inflammation at bay.

PM: Repair and Rejuvenate

There’s a reason it’s called “beauty sleep”: while you’re getting your eight hours a night, your body is hard at work replenishing cells. Support your body’s natural processes with products that encourage skin repair and collagen production, like growth factors.  Serums with growth factors encourage cell turnover keeping your complexion fresh and rejuvenated.

As always, use products with naturally-derived, sustainable ingredients or turn to those with scientifically proven clinical results for your healthiest skin. The team at Green City can help you choose some of the lushest, most luxurious skincare products for your AM and PM routine as well as aftercare for alternatives to waxing in our salon in Philadelphia.
