Skin-first sugaring means considering your skin before, during and after hair removal. At Green City Beauty, we want to understand your skin’s history, choose an appropriate approach and explain how to care for the area afterward. Smooth skin is the goal, but the way we get there matters.
If you’ve ever hesitated to book a hair removal service because your skin reacts easily, you probably understand why this matters to us. You want to know what someone will put on your skin and whether they will listen when you have certain preferences or concerns. Those are reasonable questions to bring to a sugaring appointment.
Why Green City Beauty puts skin first
Skin-first care is a shared approach across the Green City Beauty team and is a critical part of how we deliver a service with each and every client. It includes explaining our technique, making room for questions and recognizing that a service that suits one person may need to be approached differently for another, allowing us to customize on an individual basis.
The conversation before the service
Tell us how your skin has responded to previous hair removal, any specific preferences, and which products or treatments are part of your daily routine. Bring up allergies, prescription skin products and recent professional treatments before your appointment. You do not need to decide on your own which details matter. We’re happy to sort it out and make our recommendations.
If you are unsure which bikini or Brazilian service to book, ask us to explain the coverage. If you’re starting with brows, we do a full consultation with new clients to make sure the service is just right for your preferences. Feeling informed about the service is part of feeling comfortable receiving it.
Natural ingredients and a practiced technique
Green City Beauty specializes in organic sugaring hair removal and all-natural skin care. Our sugar paste uses sugar, water and lemon juice. People sometimes find us by searching for sugar waxing, but the service we practice is sugaring, with its own application and removal technique.
When Ashley talks about true sugaring, she is describing that technique and the training behind it. Natural ingredients are important to our philosophy, but they do not make every product suitable for every person. We still want to hear about sensitivities and previous reactions.
During your service, you can ask questions, let us know how you’re feeling or request a pause. Sugaring removes hair from the root, so some discomfort is possible. Skin-first does not mean promising a sensation-free appointment; it means prioritizing the skin while removing hair.
Care continues after hair removal
Green City Beauty includes Manuka honey in post-sugaring care as part of our attention to the skin after the hair is removed. Its potential skin-care properties are one reason we’re so interested in the ingredient. Laboratory research has demonstrated soothing and antibacterial activity which explains why we’ve chosen to include it in our skin-first approach to hair removal.
If you are curious about this part of the service, ask us about the product we use and tell us about any honey or bee-product allergies. An upcoming Blog post, “Manuka Honey After Sugaring,” explains the science-backed research supporting its use in skincare applications.
Aftercare should also make sense when you get home. We love to help clients develop a routine in-between sugaring appointments to ensure the best success for longer-lasting smooth skin. We can help select the right products to use, when to return to your normal routine and how to encourage healthy hair re-growth. Avoid adding a new scrub or active products immediately after your appointment and avoid pools, spas, or intense physical activity while the hair follicle remains open. Visit our frequently asked questions on our website and review our Aftercare and Maintenance recommendations.
A place to start in Cherry Hill
You do not have to begin with a Brazilian to try sugaring. Eyebrow or another smaller-area service can be a way to meet the team and ask questions about the process.
Our Cherry Hill, NJ studio welcomes clients exploring a waxing alternative in South Jersey. We are also preparing to bring Green City Beauty to Springfield in Delaware County, PA. Springfield is opening soon; check our social media pages for updates.
Common questions
Is skin first a different hair removal method?
No. Sugaring is the hair removal method. Skin-first describes Green City Beauty’s approach to consultation, technique and aftercare.
Can sensitive skin always be sugared?
No single method suits everyone. Tell us about your skin before booking so we can discuss whether the service is appropriate.
