By Green City Beauty
Green City Beauty began in Philadelphia with a personal approach to skincare and a service many local clients were discovering for the first time: sugaring. Today, we welcome clients in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and are preparing for our next chapter in Springfield, Pennsylvania.
Our Springfield studio is opening soon. While preparations continue, we wanted to share more than an expansion announcement. The story behind Green City Beauty explains what we are bringing to Delaware County and what we want clients to recognize, wherever they first get to know us.
Where we began
Founder Ashley Richardson entered esthetics after a career in the pharmaceutical industry and a challenging experience with her own reactive skin. She wanted to build a business around services and products that fit her approach, with room to listen and educate.
The business began in a shared space in Philadelphia, originally as Green City Spa. Starting small gave Ashley an opportunity to refine the concept while developing relationships with clients. Early growth came through word of mouth and referrals, as people shared their experiences with friends and family.
That personal connection became an important part of the business. Green City Beauty developed from those beginnings, combining sugaring with natural and organic skincare in a boutique setting. Philadelphia remains part of our history, even though it is not a current studio location.
Introducing a different hair removal conversation
Ashley traveled to Los Angeles for sugaring training and brought that knowledge back to Philadelphia. Helping clients understand the service was part of building the business from the start. Many people knew waxing but had not heard much about sugaring.
That is still a useful conversation. Someone searching for sugar waxing or a Brazilian wax alternative may be looking for a different hair removal experience without knowing the exact name of the service. We specialize in true sugaring and explain what the technique involves so clients can make an informed choice.
We use true sugaring to describe the technique and care behind our work. It is an invitation to ask questions, not a term a new client has to understand before reaching out. Clear explanations matter just as much now as they did when Ashley was introducing the service locally in 2012.
The Cherry Hill chapter
Cherry Hill brought Green City Beauty into South Jersey and gave new clients a place to experience our founder-led approach to sugaring. For returning clients, it also brought familiar elements of the brand into a different setting.
Ashley returned to the original Philadelphia architectural concept when developing the salon suite model. Recognizable mirrors, chandeliers and other architectural details helped carry the boutique feel into a smaller space. Clients who knew the earlier store have noticed those connections.
The continuity is about more than decor. Ashley is a certified sugaring educator and personally trains every Green City Beauty practitioner. The aim is to carry the same attention to technique, communication and individual skin concerns into the client experience.
Looking ahead to Springfield
Our upcoming Springfield studio is the next step in bringing Green City Beauty to Delaware County and making sugaring more accessible to more local markets. We are excited to introduce the business to people who are new to sugaring, as well as those who already know what they are looking for.
Springfield will be open very soon, and we will share all the exciting details with updates on our social media pages and brand new website in the near future! Cherry Hill is the current option for clients who would like to visit us now.
For Springfield, the intention is to continue the same founder-led model: a studio with its own local setting and an approach grounded in the work Green City Beauty has developed over time. It is a new place for the business, with a connection to the people and ideas that shaped it.
What we are carrying forward
As we grow, skin-first remains a useful way to describe our priorities. We want to understand the person coming in for the service, talk through questions and help clients feel more informed about their choices. Removing hair is part of the appointment; paying attention to the skin and the client’s experience is part of the care.
That also means making information easier to find. Whether someone wants to understand a bikini service, prepare for a first visit or ask about aftercare, the conversation should feel approachable. You do not have to know everything before you contact us.
To everyone who has been with us since Philadelphia, thank you for following the story. To our Cherry Hill clients and future Springfield neighbors, we look forward to getting to know you.
